Johnna Major, SPHR®

With her 20-plus years experience in human resources, business management and administration, Johnna Major’s turn as president of Cornerstone HR seems almost predestined.

“Helping businesses set sound HR practices to support their own growth is something I love,” Johnna notes. “In my work I get to know many different types of clients, learn their businesses and figure out how to apply the best HR strategies for them. It’s very hands-on; my clients really value the custom strategies that reflect their specific business needs and ability to implement them.”

After serving as director of the Maine and later the Connecticut chapters of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Johnna moved into administration for Sebago Shoes, where her interest in human resources was sparked. She then accepted an opportunity with Cole Haan, which translated well into her director of human resources position with the Internet start-up Johnna then moved on to direct human resources for Martin’s Point Health Care, where she became chief human resources officer on their executive team. Her focus at this point was to support the company as it continued to grow.

Johnna’s career experience has given her exposure to a variety of organizations, all at different points in their growth and development. This has provided a strong understanding of the key elements of change and insight about how to optimize HR in different organizations to align with its goals and strategies. She has also gained valuable exposure to quality and process improvement systems.

“I am passionate about seeing my clients succeed and proud to help them,” Johnna adds. “There is a strong sense of connection in the way I can relate my experiences, from real-life situations, to their own. My clients really appreciate my down-to-earth approach and ability to be real and honest with them.”

Johnna is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Bates College.
